It is with a heavy heart yet a spirit filled with love and gratitude that we announce the passing of Emmett Cooper, Jr., a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. Emmett departed this life on May 15, 2026, at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.
Born on January 25, 1944, in Texarkana, Arkansas, Emmett was the beloved son of Emmett Cooper, Sr. and Mary Cooper. He grew up with a profound love for his family, a bond that continued to be the cornerstone of his life. He was preceded in death by his dear parents, his sister Evelyn Johnson, and his beloved wife Lulu Cooper, with whom he shared many beautiful years of marriage.
Emmett's gentle spirit and generous heart were evident in his hobbies and interests. He had an innate talent for tinkering with old radios and record players, breathing new life into them with his skilled hands. His expertise extended to the repair of lawn mowers and small engines, a testament to his patience and meticulous nature. Cars were another of Emmett's passions, and he enjoyed changing them often, finding joy in each new driving experience.
Perhaps the most endearing of Emmett's gifts was his ability to bring joy to others through song and storytelling. He delighted in sharing his childhood memories, his stories always accompanied by the warmth of his laughter. His voice was not only a source of comfort but also a beacon of hope and joy for those around him. At the nursing facility where he resided until his passing, he led prayers and sang, lifting the spirits of residents and staff alike with his unwavering faith and melodious voice.
Emmett is survived by his son, Steve Cooper and family of Texarkana, Arkansas, who continue to honor his legacy of love and compassion. He leaves behind his sisters, Myrle Mosley-Nichols (Al) of Oklahoma City, and Gerry Nash of Little Rock, Arkansas. His memory is cherished by his nieces, Thomia Ghodratnama (Arsalan), Creshelle Nash, Delores Johnson, Sonya Janloo, Rueneaka Stamoulis (Yanni), and Tamera Massad (Josh), as well as his nephews, Eric Nash, Thomas Mosley, and Donald Johnson.
In addition to his immediate family, Emmett leaves to cherish his memory a host of other relatives and friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity. His presence was a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will continue to inspire acts of love and compassion.
