In Loving Memory

Emily Tulloch Porter
September 27, 1972 — September 14, 2026
Emily Tulloch Porter, cherished wife, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother, left this world unexpectedly on September 14, 2026, at the age of 53, following a tragic car accident. Born on September 27, 1972, in Independence, Missouri, Emily was a beacon of kindness and strength throughout her life, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Emily was the beloved daughter of Charles and Donna Tulloch. She grew up in a nurturing family environment that fostered her innate desire to help others. A proud alumna of Shawnee Mission East High School, Emily graduated in 1990 and went on to pursue higher education at Kansas State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1994. Driven by her passion for caregiving, she later obtained an Associates of Nursing degree in 2007, marking the beginning of her impactful career in the healthcare industry.
Her professional journey was marked by a dedication to service, beginning with her role as a probation and parole officer for the state of Missouri, where she made a significant difference in the lives of many. After the birth of her children, Emily chose to stay at home to nurture and guide them during their formative years. Her unwavering dedication to her family was evident in every aspect of her life.
Emily's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family as she transitioned into healthcare, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant and later as a Registered Nurse. Her compassionate care touched countless lives, particularly in the Emergency Departments where she dedicated much of her career. More recently, she brought her expertise and caring nature to an Urgent Care setting, continuing to serve her community with a gentle heart and skilled hands.
Emily's life was enriched by her marriage to Chad Porter, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of love and partnership. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Andrew Porter, Evan Porter, and Megan Sonsthagen, alongside her husband, Matthew Sonsthagen. Emily found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to her precious grandson, Theodore Sonsthagen, with whom she shared countless special moments.
A true Kansas City sports enthusiast, Emily enjoyed cheering on the Royals, Chiefs, and her alma mater, K-State, with fervor. Her love for travel was equally passionate, and she found peace and happiness by the ocean, where she never encountered a beach she didn't adore. At home, she found solace in nature, delighting in the vibrant life around her bird feeders.
Emily's life will be celebrated on October 25, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Thompson Barn, located at 11184 Lackman Rd, Lenexa, KS 66219. Family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched are invited to gather in remembrance of her extraordinary journey and the enduring impact she made on the world.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Emily's memory to the Great Plains SPCA, an organization close to her heart, located in Merriam, Kansas.
Emily's light may have dimmed, but her spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
