Emily "PeeWee" Clay
April 8, 1952 - June 17, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Emily "PeeWee" Clay, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who gracefully departed this world on June 17, 2026, after courageously battling cancer. Emily was born on April 8, 1952, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late John and Edna Clay. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her parents and her eldest brother, John Clay Jr.
Emily's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and boundless exploration. She was a proud graduate of Central High School, class of 1970, where she first began to weave the fabric of friendships and fond memories that would last a lifetime. Her passion for caring for others led her to a fulfilling career as a practical nurse at Menard Baptist Medical Center, where she dedicated her life to the service of others until her retirement in 2005. Her colleagues and patients alike remember her as a beacon of hope and compassion, always offering a healing hand and a warm smile.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Emily's legacy of love continues through her cherished children: her son, Damon Shoats, and her daughters, Latryce Hubbard and Emily Moyer. Her nurturing spirit lives on in her six treasured grandchildren, who were the light of her life and her greatest joy.
Emily was a woman of many passions, with a spirit as adventurous as it was nurturing. She had an insatiable love for the great outdoors, finding peace and inspiration in camping, fishing, and hiking. The mountains were her sanctuary, where she spent countless moments in awe of nature's beauty, often with her children by her side. Her infectious smile and quick wit made every journey memorable, encouraging all who knew her to step outside the ordinary and embrace life's adventures.
Emily's life was a testament to the strength and grace with which she faced every challenge and journey. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unyielding spirit that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A service to honor and celebrate Emily's remarkable life will be held on June 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Salazar Funeral Home, located at 400 3rd Street Southwest. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the indelible mark she left on our hearts.
Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who have provided love and support during this difficult time. Emily's journey may have ended on this earth, but her spirit will forever walk alongside those she loved.
