Emilio Domingo Oliva

Emilio Domingo Oliva, a beloved patriarch, and vibrant soul, passed away on August 29, 2026, in Cape Coral, Florida. Born in the charming town of Rodas, Cuba, on March 22, 1927, Emilio lived a life filled with adventure, warmth, and unyielding spirit. He was a cherished son of Juan Oliva and Elena Risco, and the devoted husband of the late Misora Oliva, with whom he shared decades of love and companionship. Emilio's journey was one of resilience and adaptability. In his early years, he worked as a salesman at La Sucursal, a pioneering department store in Santa Clara, Cuba. Under the mentorship of its Polish immigrant owner, Emilio honed his skills, working alongside family and friends. His entrepreneurial spirit shone as he and his brother-in-law, Marcelo Correa, traveled across towns selling a variety of goods. However, with the onset of the Revolution, Emilio's path led him to become a truck driver before making the brave decision to emigrate to the United States in 1971. Arriving in Miami, Emilio spent his first night at the storied Freedom Tower before deciding to venture to New York in search of better opportunities. There, he found work at McQuades restaurant, starting as a dishwasher and advancing to food preparation. His determination and work ethic were commendable, embodying the true immigrant spirit. Despite the challenges, Emilio never lost his zest for life. He was a proud member of "I Am Emi," a unique one-member organization reflecting his distinctive character. He had a passion for farming, cultivating tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers on his property in Oceanside, NY, where he was recognized as the area's last organic farmer. Emilio was not only a skilled farmer but also a cigar aficionado, a lover of fine whiskey and beer, and a man who enjoyed the company of others. His cooking, particularly his renowned Christmas Eve pig roasts, brought joy to many family gatherings. A charismatic and lively figure, Emilio was the life of every party, delighting in sharing stories, playing dominoes, and watching baseball and western movies. His frugality was legendary, often seen scouring Latin markets for the best deals, all while charming those he met along the way. Emilio leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his children, Magdalena Zamora, Emilio Oliva, and Adela C. Lopez; grandchildren Michelle Zamora, Bryan Zamora, Janette Marie Zamora, Emilio Oliva Jr., and Thomas J Flagiello IV; and great-grandchildren Isis Zamora, Logan Pimentel, and Luke Pimentel. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Misora, his parents, and most of his siblings.
