It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Emil Joseph Borgognone on June 9, 2026. Born on May 27, 1959, in Ca, Emil embraced each day with warmth, curiosity, and an unyielding spirit. He was 67 years old. Emil was the beloved son of the late Frances Ponce and Oreste Borgognone, and brother to the late Michael Ponce. He is survived by his cherished siblings, sisters Mary, Caterina, Angela, Margaret, and Maureen, and brother Anthony. Emil was adored by his many nieces and nephews, and his close friends, who were all touched by his gentle heart and engaging spirit. For over 25 years, Emil worked as a devoted courtesy clerk at Safeway in Castro Valley, Ca. His endearing presence and commitment to service left a lasting impression on both colleagues and customers alike. Emil's life was further enriched by his passion for sports, as he was an active and proud member of the Special Olympics for more than 30 years. Competing in numerous sports, Emil's determination and talent earned him over 100 medals, a testament to his dedication and skill. Emil had a signature look that would light up the room when you asked him for something—a look that conveyed both understanding and readiness for an adventure. He cherished the simple pleasures in life, from taking long walks to solving crossword puzzles. Cooking shows and court shows were his favorite companions for a quiet afternoon, sparking joy and curiosity in his daily routine. Emil's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who supported and cared for him throughout his journey. Your kindness and dedication have been a source of comfort and strength, and you will forever remain a part of our family. Though Emil had no grandchildren or great-grandchildren, his legacy of love, laughter, and resilience continues to inspire all who knew him. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will forever be a guiding light in our hearts. A celebration of Emil's life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather, remember, and honor a remarkable life that touched so many. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Special Olympics, an organization that brought Emil immense joy and fulfillment. May Emil Joseph Borgognone rest in the peace he so richly deserves, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
