With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Elvina Rideaux, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on April 29, 2026, at the age of 92. Elvina departed this world surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of grace, warmth, and indomitable spirit that will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on September 5, 1933, to Joseph and Viola Tezeno, Elvina was one of 16 children, raised in a home filled with love and life's lessons that she carried throughout her days. Predeceased by her parents, her husband Steven Rideaux Sr., her son Donald Rideaux Sr., and 12 siblings, Elvina's life was a testament to resilience and the power of family bonds.
Elvina's journey with her soulmate, Steven Rideaux Sr., began when they married on September 8, 1951, in the heart of Opelousas, Louisiana. Together, they built a beautiful life over 60 years of marriage, a union marked by deep affection and mutual respect. Steven was not just her husband but her "Honey," a term of endearment that encapsulated their enduring love.
Elvina was a nurturing force who found immense joy in her family. She leaves behind a devoted family, including her cherished siblings and her five surviving children: Steven Jr., Bernice (William) Curtiss, Arnold (Angelique), Mark, and David (Katrina). Her legacy further extends to a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and an extended family of friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
Throughout her life, Elvina was known for her unwavering faith, her compassionate spirit, and her ability to bring people together. She had a unique gift for making everyone feel special and loved, a testament to her generous heart and nurturing nature.
A celebration of Elvina's life will be held on May 12, 2026, at St. Liborius Catholic Church, located at 71 W. 35th St., Steger, IL 60475. We invite all who knew and loved her to join us in honoring her remarkable life and the enduring legacy she leaves behind.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Your prayers, calls, cards, flowers, and acts of kindness have been a source of comfort and strength. Although we will miss Elvina dearly, we take solace in the countless memories we shared and the love she instilled in each of us. She will live on in our hearts, a guiding light and a cherished memory.
