With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Elton "Bob" Robert LaDuke on May 10, 2026, at his beloved home. Born on April 17, 1933, in the charming town of Grand Junction, Colorado, Bob's earthly journey was a tapestry of love, laughter, and service that touched the lives of many.
Bob was the cherished son of Alfre Herman LaDuke and Lila Alta (Joy) LaDuke and a loving brother to the late Richard (Dick) LaDuke. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 68 years, Caryl Elizabeth LaDuke, who was his steadfast partner in all of life's adventures. Together, they built a beautiful family, which includes their sons, Daryn and his wife Tana, Kelly, and Kevin, who is engaged to Ashlie Samson. Bob's legacy continues through his seven adoring grandchildren—Ranae, Jack, Will, Gary, Kobey, JoHanna, and Alexandria—and his great-grandchild, who brought him immense joy in his later years. His brother, Tom LaDuke, also survives him, sharing fond memories of their shared youth.
Bob's pursuit of knowledge was evident early on. He graduated from Grand Junction High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Education from Mesa College, followed by a master's degree in Education and Administration from Western State College. His passion for education translated into a fulfilling 32-year career as a dedicated educator at Fruitvale Elementary, Taylor Elementary, and Mount Garfield Middle School. Bob’s influence extended beyond the classroom as he inspired many young athletes while coaching track and basketball, and later as an assistant coach for the Grand Junction High School Girls Golf team.
Bob's commitment to community service was unwavering. He played an integral role in the Palisade Lions Club, serving as both secretary and president. His leadership extended to the boards of Crimestoppers and Mesa State College, and he diligently fulfilled his duties as the secretary/treasurer of the Colorado Golf Association.
Golf was not just a passion for Bob; it was a way of life. An avid golfer at Tiara Rado Golf Course, he was instrumental in advocating for the sport and played a significant role in the construction of the new clubhouse, a testament to his dedication and vision. Bob's love for the game was rivaled only by his devotion to his family, who were always the center of his world.
Those who knew Bob will forever remember his constant smile, his sharp wit, and the genuine care he extended to everyone he met. He was a beacon of positivity and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Bob, we celebrate a life that was rich in love and service. His spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched and the cherished memories he leaves behind. In honoring Bob's life, we find comfort in knowing that he is now resting in peace, having lived a life full of love, laughter, and meaningful contributions.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Palisade Lions Club or a charity of your choice, reflecting Bob’s lifelong commitment to service and community.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and share in the joy of his memory.
