Elmer Sanderson

September 8, 1935 — August 23, 2026

Elmer Sanderson, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on August 23, 2026. Born on September 8, 1935, in the gentle embrace of North Carolina, Elmer was a beacon of resilience and love, whose life was a testament to the enduring values of hard work, devotion, and family. Elmer was the cherished daughter of Ellis and Rita Jacobs, and she carried their legacy forward with grace and strength. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Winford, June, Son, and Bill Jacobs, her sister Corine Jacobs, and a beloved baby boy, Wyvis Hunt. Their memory remained a guiding light in her life. Blessed with a large and loving family, Elmer is survived by her devoted children: five daughters, Virginia Sanderson of Lumberton, NC, Sylvia Locklear of Lumberton, NC, Kathy Hunt (Leon) of Lumberton, NC, Tonya Hunt (Brian) of the home, and Kayla Robeson of Phoenix, AZ; and four sons, Phillips Sanderson (Wanda) of Maxton, NC, Kenneth Hunt of Rowland, NC, Leon Sanderson of Lumberton, NC, and Jerry Sanderson of Lumberton, NC. Her family was her pride and joy, and she nurtured them with an abundance of love and support. Elmer's life was marked by her tireless work ethic. Her hands, calloused by work, were equally skilled at tending to her garden. Her love for planting flowers and trees was a reflection of her nurturing spirit. Many days, she found solace and joy in the simple act of caring for her garden, immersing herself in the beauty of nature she so dearly loved. Despite her no-nonsense demeanor and a firm approach to life, Elmer’s love was unmistakable. She believed in the power of actions over words, always ensuring her loved ones felt her support and affection through her deeds. Her family and friends knew that her heart was as expansive as the gardens she cherished. Evenings in Elmer’s home were filled with the warmth of home-cooked meals, prepared with love and enjoyed over the backdrop of her favorite television shows. Her life was a beautiful blend of hard work, dedication, and simple pleasures, lived in the company of those she held dear. Elmer Sanderson’s presence was a blessing to all who knew her. Her legacy of love, strength, and unwavering commitment to her family will be carried forward by those who survive her.
