Elletta Knowles

November 30, 1945 — October 5, 2026

Elletta Knowles, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep at St. Vincent Hospital on October 5, 2026. She was 80 years old. Elletta was born on November 30, 1945, in Miles City, Montana, to Ray and LaVerna Dykes. A graduate of Custer County High School in 1964, Elletta married her high school sweetheart, Robert Knowles, on September 9, 1964. Together, they built a life full of love, shared joy, and beautiful memories. Their union was blessed with four children: Karen (Seth) Meacham, Tracey (Jason) Martin, Robin Wolf, and Robert (Dawn) Knowles. Elletta's family continued to grow, and she took great pride in her 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, cherishing each moment spent with them. Elletta was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Robert, her brothers Harold and Dennis, her sisters Haddie, Cathy, and Sharon, and her precious granddaughters Brandy and Rebecca. Despite these losses, she remained a pillar of strength for her family, her smile a constant source of comfort and joy. For 32 years, Elletta devoted herself to her work at Miles City Laundry and Cleaners, where her colleagues became extended family. Her presence brought warmth to everyone she encountered, a testament to her naturally kind heart and her unwavering belief in seeing the good in others. Elletta's life was filled with simple pleasures and hobbies that brought her immense happiness. She loved watching Hallmark and Ion channels, engaging in word searches, and playing solitaire. Her fondness for thrift stores and yard sales was well known, and she had a particular affection for anything adorned with an owl. Pomegranates, jewelry, clothes, and KFC—especially the coleslaw—were among her favorite things. A woman of quick wit and gentle humor, Elletta's laughter was infectious. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone, a rare quality that endeared her to all who knew her. She was, above all, a wonderful listener and a compassionate friend, her smile lighting up the room and her presence providing solace and joy. Elletta’s cherished dog, Rolo, was her constant companion, bringing her comfort and companionship in her later years. A celebration of Elletta's life will be held on November 21, 2026, at the VFW Reception Hall. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of a woman whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and resilience. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Elletta’s spirit of generosity and compassion. Her legacy of love and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Elletta Knowles welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.

If Tomorrow Starts Without Me

If tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see, if the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me; I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today, while thinking of the many things we didn't get to say. I know how much you love me, as much as I love you, and each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too. But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand that an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand.

Special Thanks

The family of Elletta Knowles extends heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, support, and kindness during this time.
