In Loving Memory

Ella MCcray
February 3, 1948 — September 26, 2026
Ella McCray, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, was called to eternal rest on September 26, 2026, at Jersey Shore Hospital after a courageous battle with illness. Born on February 3, 1948, in Camden, South Carolina, Ella was the cherished daughter of Clyde and Janie Marshall.
Ella's early education took place in South Carolina, and in her younger years, she embarked on a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Brooklyn, New York, during the 1980s. Her dedication to her work and unwavering compassion touched many lives. Later, she relocated to Asbury Park, NJ, where she began a new chapter as a housekeeper for the Sheraton Hotel and Monmouth Mall in Eatontown, NJ, continuing her diligent service until her retirement.
Ella's life was a testament to resilience and love. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Louis Ann and Annie May Marshall, her son Elliott Marshall, her former husband Thomas McCray Sr., and her spouse, Arthur Chambers. Despite these losses, Ella's spirit remained unbroken, and she continued to brighten the lives of those around her with her radiant smile—a smile that conveyed joy and warmth, regardless of the circumstances.
Ella leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her sister, Mary Marshall, and her brother, Clyde Marshall Jr., along with her children: Alfred Marshall of Virginia, Thelma Smith (Roney) of Iselin, NJ, Thomas McCray Jr. (Gail) of North Carolina, Anthony McCray of Asbury Park, NJ, and Arthur McCray of Eatontown, NJ.
Her legacy of love extends to her seven grandchildren: Antwaun Marshall, Tammie Williams, Laquanda Williams, Lakethia Williams, Edwin McCray M.D. (Chelsea), Bria McCray, and Quentin McCray; twelve great-grandchildren: Ty’Vohn, Imani, Jaspher, Ai’Len, Italee, Riyadhna, Kendrick, Malachi, Jaela, Noah, Griffin, and Jordan; and her great-great-grandson, Isaiah. Ella's family and a host of friends will forever remember her kindness, compassion, and the love she shared so generously.
A service to celebrate Ella's life will be held on October 09 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Ely Funeral Home, located at 3316 State Route 33, Neptune Township, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Ella's generous spirit.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Jersey Shore Medical Center for the exceptional care and comfort provided to Ella. Your kindness and support are greatly appreciated during this difficult time.
