Elizabeth Woodyard

November 28, 1934 — October 24, 2026

Elizabeth Woodyard, a beloved matriarch, and cherished friend, passed away on October 24, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on November 28, 1934, in Silver, South Carolina, Elizabeth was the daughter of LeRoy Durant and Susan (Green) Durant. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings, Aaron Atkinson and Eetha Thompson. Elizabeth's journey through life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her community. She married Leonard Woodyard Sr. on December 6, 1957, in Port Huron, Michigan, and together they raised four wonderful children: Suzette (William Jr.) Batton, Leonard Woodyard Jr., Gail (Tony) Adams, and Lisa (Terry) Williams. Her legacy continues through her eleven grandchildren—Felissia Williams, Robert Willams, Jr., William Batton III, LaTanya Dickens, Latonya Bankston, Tyrone Woodyard, Pierre Batton, Antoynae Lockett, Anthony Adam's, Cinamon Rigmaiden, and Brianna Rigmaiden—and her twenty great-grandchildren, who were all a source of immense pride and joy to her. Elizabeth found fulfillment in her work as a housekeeper, contributing her warmth and diligence to the Willis's, Austin's, and Mueller families. Beyond her professional life, she was an active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she held various positions and found great joy in being part of the Nurses Guild. Her love of poetry was evident as she often recited and mimed poems such as "The Creation," bringing the words to life with her expressive performances. Her passions extended to her hobbies, where she found joy in baking, sewing, and hairstyling. Known for her delicious pound cakes and brownies, Elizabeth's kitchen was always a place of comfort and delight. A talented seamstress, she crafted beautiful clothing for her children, particularly for special church occasions. Her gifted hands extended to hairstyling, where she transformed the hair of friends and family, leaving a lasting impact with her skill and care. Elizabeth took up bowling by partnering with her then husband Leonard Woodyard Sr. and then she decided to become an avid league bowler and won many team and singles trophies from her bowling days traveling around different States. Her quick wit and warm smile endeared her to everyone she met. She had an extraordinary ability to make people feel welcomed and valued, and her kindness and generosity touched countless lives. She believed that by blessing others, she would be blessed in return—a sentiment proven true throughout her long and fulfilling life. A service celebrating Elizabeth's life will be held on November 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Smith Funeral Home, located at 1525 Hancock St., Port Huron, MI 48060. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Blue Water Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elizabeth's memory to a charity of choice. The family leaves you with this scripture, Psalm 121:1,2 as a reflection of Elizabeth's life and spirit. May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
