It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Maddox, who left this world peacefully in her sleep on March 28, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on April 18, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia, Elizabeth was the beloved daughter of the late Oscar and Cora Bruno. Her journey was one of love, dedication, and selflessness—a journey that touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Elizabeth was the cherished wife of the late Tommy Maddox Sr., with whom she shared 48 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family that includes their devoted children, Tommy Maddox, Sharon Maddox, Petrina Maddox and Donna Maddox, alongside a legacy of 13 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and a blossoming lineage of great-great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Margaret Bruno Rosser and Mary Bruno Brown, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, carry forward her memory with love and admiration.
Elizabeth dedicated her life to the care and service of others, working as a caregiver with a deep-seated compassion that earned her accolades, including a certificate of outstanding leadership from the Nursing Academy. Her commitment to her community was unwavering, as she volunteered for numerous neighborhood and school activities, always lending a helping hand and a warm smile.
A devout member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Elizabeth also found spiritual fulfillment at the House of Refuge Ministries and United Praise Ministry. Her faith was her guiding light, and she shared it generously with those around her, embodying the virtues of meekness, kindness, and an unyielding willingness to support others.
Elizabeth's presence was a gift; her love was a beacon of comfort and hope. To know her was to feel truly seen and cherished, as she poured her heart into every interaction and relationship. Her legacy is one of unconditional love and selfless service, traits that will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
The family invites all who wish to celebrate Elizabeth's remarkable life to join them for a service on April 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at East Lake United Methodist Church, located at 2500 Hosea L Williams Drive NE, Atlanta, Ga 40317. In this time of remembrance, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered their support and love during this period of mourning.
