It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth "Liz" Riedel, a beloved wife, aunt, and friend, who left this world peacefully on May 23, 2026, at Glenbrook Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 19, 1940, Liz lived a life full of love, adventure, and kindness.
Liz's journey began in **, where she was born into a world that she would color with her warmth and curiosity. From an early age, Liz displayed an insatiable love for learning and exploring the world around her, a passion that would define her life's path.
On June 8, 1958, she married the love of her life, Reinhold "Ron" Riedel, in a beautiful ceremony in Chicago, Illinois. Together, Liz and Ron embarked on a 66-year journey filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and companionship, marked by countless travels around the globe, tending to their garden, and creating a welcoming haven for family and friends. Liz, with her gift of hospitality, often opened her home to others, where she hosted lavish meals that were as much a feast for the soul as they were for the body.
An intellectual at heart, Liz was fluent in five languages, a skill that allowed her to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. Her love for conversation and genuine interest in the life stories of others made her a cherished friend to many. Liz's home was a sanctuary where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and friendships blossomed.
Liz was an avid reader, always with a book in hand, ready to immerse herself in new worlds and ideas. Her days were often spent at the Senior Center, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of friends while engaging in lively workouts. Liz's playful spirit shone through her friendly puzzle competitions with Ron, moments that encapsulated the joy and partnership they shared. In her later years, Liz found solace in the serene beauty of her garden, where she savored quiet moments with Ron, a cold beer in hand.
Her legacy of love and friendship is carried on by her devoted husband, Ron, her cherished nieces Donna (Jeff) Able and Ira (Pete) Mischenko, as well as a host of extended family, godchildren, and lifelong friends who were touched by her grace and generosity.
Liz's family invites those who wish to honor her memory to consider a donation to the American Cancer Society, an organization close to her heart, reflecting her enduring spirit and dedication to helping others.
Though she has left this earthly realm, Liz's light continues to shine in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the beauty of human connection, the joy of shared experiences, and the power of love. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
