Elizabeth "Betty" Martin

Elizabeth "Betty" Martin, a spirited and beloved member of her community, passed away on September 4, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on November 19, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, Betty was the cherished daughter of the late James L. Martin and Mable Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Donald and Edward Martin, her sister Marie Campbell, and her daughter-in-law Tedra Martin. Betty's life was one of adventure, creativity, and warmth. She attended Germantown High School, where she began to cultivate her many talents and interests. Betty had a fulfilling career with the Environmental Protection Service of Pennsylvania, dedicating 25 years of her life to protecting the environment. Following her service there, she continued to enrich the lives of others at the Spring Mill Pointe retirement community, where she worked for 19 years. A woman of many passions, Betty was an accomplished seamstress with a knack for creating beauty out of fabric. She found joy in knitting, playing the piano, and had an insatiable love for reading. Her hobbies extended to thrifting and baking, often sharing the fruits of her labor with friends and family. Betty was also an avid collector of antiques, each piece in her collection telling a story of its own. Uniquely, she had a deep love for motorcycles and a profound interest in Asian culture, both of which reflected her adventurous spirit and curiosity. Known for her wild, straightforward, and determined nature, Betty was unapologetically herself. Her favorite saying, “I’m telling it like it T I is!” exemplified her honest and forthright personality. Her legacy of independence and determination lives on through her family. Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Nicole Martin, and her devoted son, Timothy Martin. Her legacy continues through her four grandchildren, Dwanna Gay, Dwayne Gay, Jr., Dominique Martin-Gay, and Tylan Martin, as well as her three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her dear siblings, Linda Hardy-Scott, William Martin, June Lawrence, and Gerry McWhite, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory. In honor of Betty’s life, in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Whosoever Gospel Mission and Rescue Home Association of Germantown, PA, in her memory.
