Elizabeth "Betty" Booty
September 18, 1938 — May 24, 2026
Elizabeth "Betty" Booty, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this world on May 24, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Born on September 18, 1938, in the serene town of Bayou Chene, Louisiana, Betty's life was a testament to kindness, education, and unwavering dedication to others.
Betty was the cherished daughter of Harrold and Agatha Snellgrove, who instilled in her a deep love for learning and a compassionate nature. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Lois Aubrey, her brother Mark Snellgrove, and her devoted husband, Terry Booty. Her legacy of love continues through her surviving family members: her daughters Terri Elizabeth Newbolt, Angela Smith and her husband Danny, and Allison Jessup with her husband Jeff. She is also fondly remembered by her brother, Tom Snellgrove, her grandchildren Ty Gaston and his wife Megan, Caroline Gaston, Emily Bruehl and her husband Nathan, Jacob Smith, Samantha Sheats, and Shelby Sheats, and her great-grandchildren Caleb, Lauren, and Hannah Gaston.
Betty's story is one of love at first sight. She met Terry Booty, the love of her life, while working in Oil City, Louisiana. The two shared a beautiful journey together, beginning with their marriage on August 14, 1960, in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Together, they built a life centered around faith, family, and education, sharing a passion for learning that led them both to earn Master's degrees from Northwestern State University.
A dedicated educator, Betty's career began in Caddo Parish Schools, where she shared her passion for English and Louisiana history with countless students, even organizing memorable train rides to Baton Rouge to breathe life into her lessons. As she transitioned from teacher to counselor, and eventually to principal at Forest Hill Elementary, Betty's commitment to nurturing young minds and supporting her community never wavered.
Betty and Terry were active members of Summer Grove United Methodist Church, where they found joy and purpose in serving others. Betty's generous spirit was evident not only in her professional life but also in her personal life, where she was known for her kindness, her love of travel, and her skill at card games, particularly a spirited match of Mexican Train.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Spring Creek Village, who provided Betty with extraordinary care and treated her as family throughout her residency. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Louisiana United Methodist Children's Home at https://lumcfs.org, a cause close to Betty's heart.
Betty's life will be celebrated in a service at Spring Creek Assisted Living Senior Care, located at 20305 Holzwarth Road in Spring, Texas. As we gather to honor her memory, we remember a life marked by love, service, and a boundless capacity for joy, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will be cherished by all who knew her.
