August 22, 1965 — June 20, 2026

Elizabeth "Betsy" May Dutton, a cherished daughter, devoted friend, and beloved cousin, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026. Born on August 22, 1965, in Portland, Oregon, Betsy graced this world with her light for 60 years, leaving behind an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Betsy was the beloved daughter of the late Bill and Fran Dutton, who both predeceased her, along with a dear aunt and uncle. She is survived by a loving uncle, aunt, and an expansive family of over 30 cousins, each of whom she cherished deeply. Betsy always found joy in the company of her biological family as well as her square dance family, who were her anchors and greatest supporters. Education was a cornerstone in Betsy's life. She attended Pacific Lutheran High School and continued her academic journey at Clackamas Community College, and then attended Western Oregon University. Her passion for learning was matched only by her commitment to her career. For 38 years, Betsy dedicated herself to her work at Cigna, where she was more than just a colleague; she was a beacon of strength and resilience. Her quick wit and determination ensured that she did not allow much to impede her path, earning her the respect and admiration of all who worked alongside her. Outside of her professional life, Betsy was a vibrant member of her community. She was an enthusiastic participant in a square dancing group in Portland, where her lively spirit brought joy to many. Her love for dance was only rivaled by her profound affection for reading—she loved books with a passion that was truly inspiring. A devoted animal lover, Betsy adored her feline companions, finding solace and companionship in their gentle purrs. A woman of many talents, Betsy's expressive nature was unmistakable; she talked with her hands just like her mama, a trait that endeared her to all. Her stories, always animated and full of life, are cherished memories that will be fondly remembered by those she leaves behind. In honor of Betsy’s enduring love for animals and her cherished dance community, contributions can be made in her memory to the Portland Humane Society or her beloved square dancing group. As we reflect on Betsy's life, we remember her as a woman of strength, and humor. Though she faced the challenge of cancer with courage and dignity, she never let it define her. Instead, Betsy remained a beacon of hope and resilience, inspiring all who knew her with her unwavering spirit. Betsy will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and warmth will live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace, forever in the love of God.
