ELIZABETH A CONNELLY

September 26, 1936 — April 7, 2026

Elizabeth A. Connelly, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, with her loving family by her side. Born on September 26, 1936, in Utica, NY, Elizabeth led a life filled with warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She was 89 years old. Elizabeth was the beloved daughter of Joseph Connelly and Gladys Topa, who instilled in her a deep sense of family values and compassion. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers-in-law William Bashant and Wayne Decker, her daughter-in-law Anne Halpin, and her beloved son Robert Halpin Jr. Though they are no longer with us, their memories live on through Elizabeth's enduring legacy. Elizabeth's journey of love and partnership began in 1959 when she married Robert Halpin, with whom she shared a beautiful life and raised five wonderful children: Joseph (Meg) Halpin of Cicero, NY; Timothy (Karen) Halpin of Trenton Falls, NY; Tamisue (Les) Shaler of Remsen, NY; and Jill (Jerry) Smith of Remsen, NY. Her family continued to grow with the addition of 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, each one bringing immense joy to her life. Elizabeth graduated from Utica Catholic Academy in 1955 and attended Utica School of Business before discovering her true calling as a mother. While she dedicated many years working at Bank of America (formerly Fleet) and could often be found waitressing at the local diner in Remsen, NY, her heart was always at home with her children. She never missed a practice or sports game and was known for providing rides and cheering on not just her own children but their friends as well. Her passion for the Olympics was unmatched, and she meticulously documented every match and event. One of her greatest joys was attending the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Elizabeth had a love for travel, visiting 21 states and three countries, with Ireland holding a special place in her heart; she visited the beautiful country three times. Elizabeth is survived by her siblings Marilyn Major, Beverly, Gail, and Sandra Bashant, and her grandchildren: Robert (Michelle) Halpin, Benjamin (Alyssa) Halpin, Randy (Katie) Hughes of New Hartford, NY, Courtney Hughes of Delmar, NY, Trevor Hughes of Utica, NY, Alex (Ilana) Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Brooke (Teddy) Flint of Verona, NY, Carly (Travis) Sholder of CO, Tyler Halpin of CO, Audrey Halpin, Ryan (Kiersten) Halpin of NY, and Shannon (Jacob) Ilten of Evans Mills, NY. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her spirit of love and kindness. A service to celebrate Elizabeth's life will be held on April 16, 2026, at Heintz Funeral Home in Whitesboro, NY. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville, NY, for their compassionate care and love shown to Elizabeth in her final days. Elizabeth A. Connelly's life was a testament to love, dedication, and community. Her legacy will forever be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
