May 10, 1948 — June 4, 2026

Elijah "Skip" Monroe McCurley, a beloved patriarch, a decorated veteran, and a cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on May 10, 1948, in Valparaiso, Florida, Skip's journey was one of service, laughter, and enduring love. Skip was the cherished son of Ephrom Fredrick and Willie Mae (Harrison) McCurley, who instilled in him the values of hard work, kindness, and generosity. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Ephrom "Sonny" and James "Jimmy," and three sisters, Annie, Willie Pearl, and Velda. Despite these losses, Skip's spirit remained unbroken, a testament to his resilience and strength. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in his surviving family: his devoted sons, Jamison McCurley (Tara) of Henderson, NV, and John Marc McCurley (Leah) of Everett, WA; his cherished sister, Mary; and his five treasured grandchildren, Jamison, Marcus, Heaven Leigh, Leah, and Constantine. To his numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends he was not just an uncle, but a source of joy and inspiration. In his youth, Skip courageously served his country as a U.S. Navy Seabee during the Vietnam War (68 - 69), where he fought with valor and received numerous medals, including the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia. His service was marked by a "Can Do!" spirit, a motto that would carry through his entire life. After his military service, Skip channeled his indomitable work ethic into building a successful HVAC business. He was not just a skilled tradesman but also a mentor to his sons, instilling in them the values of diligence, ingenuity and family dedication. His knack for problem-solving and his tireless dedication were hallmarks of his career and life. Skip was more than his achievements; his life was a tapestry woven with generosity, laughter, love, and adventure. He was a man who delighted in the simple joys, from singing karaoke to riding motorcycles with family or simply "cuttin' up". His playful spirit was infectious; he could light up a room with his Donald Duck voice or bring smiles with his hambone dance. He had an extraordinary ability to turn everyday moments into cherished memories, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, the light he spread continues to shine through those he inspired. Skip's passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt, but his legacy of love and laughter will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. His life was a testament to the power of kindness and the joy of living fully, and he will be dearly missed. As we remember Skip, we are reminded that while he may have left this earthly realm, his spirit and the cherished memories he created with us will endure forever. Rest in peace, dear Skip. Your legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire us all.
