Elijah D. Mayes
January 19, 2006 — June 9, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Elijah D. Mayes, who left us far too soon on June 9, 2026. Born on January 19, 2006, in Montgomery, Alabama, Elijah graced this world with his vibrant spirit and gentle heart for 20 remarkable years.
Elijah was the treasured son of Lenny D. Mayes and Flossie Mayes, who nurtured his dreams and supported him in every endeavor. From a young age, Elijah displayed an exceptional talent and passion for basketball, a sport that became an integral part of his life. His love for the game was matched only by his determination and commitment, characteristics that were evident to all who knew him.
Elijah spent his formative years in Georgia, where he attended Hillgrove High School. There, he not only excelled academically but also became a celebrated member of the school's basketball team. His leadership on and off the court left an indelible mark on his teammates and coaches, earning him respect and admiration throughout the community.
In 2024, Elijah embarked on a new chapter of his life at THEE Alabama State University, where he pursued his education with the same zeal and dedication that characterized his approach to basketball. Though his time at the university was brief, his presence was felt deeply by his peers and professors, who often remarked on his kindness, intelligence, and unwavering perseverance.
Elijah's legacy is carried on by his loving parents, Lenny and Flossie, who were his biggest supporters and constant source of encouragement. He is also survived by his adoring siblings, Caleb and Samantha, who cherished every moment spent with their brother and will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Though Elijah's time with us was short, his impact was profound. He taught us the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the beauty of pursuing one's passions with unbridled enthusiasm. His memory will remain a guiding light for all who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived, albeit far too brief.
In accordance with the family's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Elijah's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of Elijah's generous spirit and his desire to make a positive difference in the world.
As we say farewell to Elijah, we find solace in the love he shared with us and the memories that will forever warm our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Elijah, knowing you were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
