January 30, 1998 — October 14, 2026

Elijah VanPietersom, known as Eli or Bubba to many passed away on October 14, 2026. Born on January 30, 1998, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Eli cherished the great outdoors. Whether it was fishing at dawn or embarking on a hunting trip, Eli was always in his element beneath the open sky. His passion for sports, particularly softball and basketball, was equaled only by his readiness to dive into any outdoor adventure that came his way. It was in these simple pleasures that Eli found happiness, sharing countless memories with friends and family. He was the beloved son of Jim and Naomi VanPietersom and a cherished brother to Libby and Tom Wright, Jonah and Naomi VanPietersom, and Grace and Caleb Buckman. Eli was also a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews: Wesson, Blakely, Oakley, Liam, Kinsley, and Oliver. His warmth and humor will be sorely missed by his extended family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Eli was predeceased by his grandfather, Tom VanPietersom, and his uncle and aunt, Tim and Sue VanPietersom. Eli's presence in any room was marked by his infectious humor. He had a rare gift for making friends effortlessly, his ready smile and quick wit endearing him to all. To know Eli was to experience a good time, as he had an uncanny ability to uplift those around him with his bright spirit. In honoring Eli's life, a funeral will be held and live streamed at a future date. Many who knew Eli knew his struggles and the battles he faced daily. The family would really like to encourage everyone to know where they will be spending eternity. Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Everyone needs a savior from their sins. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus died for you and rose again three days later so that you can have eternal life. All that God asks in order for you to receive this free gift is to believe in Jesus Christ and what he did for you on the cross. Will you trust in him today to receive forgiveness and eternal life? Though Eli's time with us was all too brief, his legacy of laughter, love, and adventure will endure in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
