Eleanor Whitmore, 87, of Portland, Oregon, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026. Born on April 18, 1939, Eleanor lived a life marked by warmth, patience, and devotion to family. For more than thirty years, Eleanor taught elementary school and helped generations of children discover confidence in reading and writing. Away from the classroom, she loved tending roses, playing piano, writing thoughtful notes, and baking blackberry pies for anyone who stopped by. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Whitmore. She is survived by her daughters, Anna Whitmore and Claire Bennett; her son, Michael Whitmore; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many friends who became family. A memorial service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Chapel on May 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Portland Public Library Foundation. The family is grateful for every message, photo, and memory shared here.
