In Loving Memory of Eleanor Mae Thompson It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Mae Thompson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us peacefully on December 20, 2025, at the age of 77. Eleanor was born on March 15, 1948, in the warm embrace of Austin, Texas, to her loving parents, James and Dorothy Thompson. Eleanor blossomed in a nurturing and close-knit family, alongside her siblings, William and Patricia. She carried forward the values of kindness and community that were instilled in her from a young age. Preceded in death by her cherished husband, Robert Thompson, and her brother, William, Eleanor’s legacy lives on through those she leaves behind, including her devoted sister Patricia Davis, her son Michael Thompson and his wife Sarah, and her daughter Karen Mitchell and her husband David. Her love also extends to her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her days. A proud alumna of the University of Texas at Austin, Eleanor graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts, the same year she wed her soulmate, Robert. Together, they crafted a beautiful life, sharing 52 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Eleanor dedicated 30 years of her life to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher at Westlake Elementary. Her classroom was a haven of learning and warmth, a reflection of her generous spirit and boundless patience. Her retirement in 2008 marked the end of a remarkable career but began a new chapter of community involvement and personal pursuits. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Eleanor found joy in serving her community and connecting with others. Her passions for gardening, watercolor painting, and baking pies for church socials brought her immense happiness and touched the lives of many. She was also an active participant in the Austin Garden Club and the Retired Teachers Association, where her infectious smile and welcoming nature made her a cherished friend to all. Eleanor was a beacon of light and love, known for her warm smile and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel at home. Her legacy is one of kindness, compassion, and unwavering generosity. A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held on January 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, located at 901 Trinity St, Austin, TX 78701. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Eleanor’s extraordinary life and the memories she created along the way. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eleanor’s memory to the Austin Humane Society, a cause she held dear to her heart. Contributions can be made via their website at Austin Humane Society. The Thompson family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses at St. David's Medical Center for the care and kindness shown to Eleanor in her final days. Eleanor Mae Thompson’s life was a testament to the power of love and community. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
