Obituary for Eleanor Helen Wall
July 7, 1930 - June 13, 2026
It is with a profound mixture of sadness and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Eleanor Helen Wall, who peacefully left this world on June 13, 2026, at Green Acres Assisted Living, surrounded by the love of her family and caregivers. She was 95 years old.
Eleanor was born on July 7, 1930, in the charming town of Manistee, Michigan, where she first learned the values of hard work, community service, and family—the tenets that would guide her throughout life. She was the cherished daughter of Celia Klajda and grew up alongside her beloved siblings, Benjamin, Adrian, Robert, Phillip, and Florence, all of whom predeceased her.
In 1950, Eleanor found her soulmate in Devere Wall, and they were married on July 15 in Manistee. Together, they built a family rooted in love, resilience, and a commitment to community service. Eleanor and Devere were blessed with four children: Daryl (Karen) Wall, Dana (Deborah) Wall, Nikki Wall, and Toni Jan Eckhardt, who sadly predeceased her.
Eleanor's professional life was as rich and diverse as her personal one. Her early adult years were spent working at the Portage Point Inn in Onekama, and she later dedicated several years to Onekama Consolidated Schools. Eleanor concluded her working career at the Manistee County Road Commission, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike.
A devout and active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eleanor's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a charter member of the Junior Clio Club, where she tirelessly worked to raise funds for numerous organizations and dedicated herself to local charity work. Her contributions to the community have left a lasting impact that will be felt for generations.
Eleanor leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her surviving children, grandchildren Melanie Eckhardt, McLain Eckhardt, Kirk Eckhardt, Kayla Bachi, Justin Somsel, Dylan Somsel, Michael Wall, Erin Webb, David Wall, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. They, along with all who knew Eleanor, will remember her as a beacon of kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear.
A service celebrating Eleanor's life will be held on June 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Terwilliger's in Kaleva. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Green Acres and Hospice of Michigan for their exceptional care and dedication during Eleanor's final days. Their kindness and professionalism provided comfort and support at a time when it was needed most.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Eleanor's memory to a charity of your choosing, continuing her legacy of giving and love.
Eleanor Helen Wall will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, community, and family. May she rest in peace, reunited with those who have gone before her.
