It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eleanor Gay Kennedy, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, on March 17, 2026. Born on December 31, 1955, in the vibrant city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gay, as she was affectionately known, graced the world with her presence for 70 beautiful years.
Gay was the cherished daughter of the late Sydney Riggs Kennedy and Eleanor Archibald Fairn Kennedy. Her journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit. Predeceased by her parents and her brother Derek Kennedy, Gay is survived by a loving family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She leaves behind her much-beloved son, Morgan McKay, who was her pride and joy. Gay also leaves her sister Krista Phillips and her husband Eric, her brother Craig Kennedy and his partner Donna Touchie, and sister-in-law Barbara Kennedy.
Her nephews, Colin, Ben, and Cameron McGregor, and niece, Anna Kennedy, were among the many who were fortunate to bask in the warmth of her love. The family was a cornerstone of Gay's life, and she was the heartbeat of theirs.
Gay's academic journey led her to Mount St. Vincent University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Her education laid the foundation for a diverse and fulfilling career. Her early days at The Misty Moon Cabaret were filled with joy and camaraderie, where her vibrant personality shone brightly. She later dedicated many years to the Federal public service, contributing her talents to Transport Canada and the Department of National Defence. Her work was driven by passion and a deep sense of commitment.
Those who knew Gay will remember her for her sharp wit and unfailing humor—a spirited personality that could light up any room. Even as she faced long years of illness, her spark never dimmed. She lived with a fierce determination and was driven by passion and conviction, traits that inspired those around her.
Gay's capacity to love and be loved was one of her most defining qualities. She embraced life and those she held dear with a fervent intensity, creating bonds that will endure beyond her passing.
As we celebrate Gay's life, we remember her not only for her achievements and her strength but for the warmth and laughter she brought into our lives. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and an unyielding spirit that will continue to inspire us all.
Gay passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family, after a courageous battle with a long illness. Her spirit now rests, free from pain, leaving behind a world forever touched by her presence.
A private family service will be held to honor Gay's life, in accordance with her wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Gay's memory, celebrating her generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
Eleanor Gay Kennedy will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Rest in peace, dear Gay. Your journey continues in the hearts of those who love you.
