Eleanor Elizabeth Brown
October 29, 1952 — July 4, 2026
Eleanor Elizabeth Brown, a beacon of love and compassion, passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on October 29th, 1952, in Long Island, New York, Eleanor was the cherished daughter of the late Luther and Dorothy Austin. She was a beloved sister to the late Andrea Austin and is survived by her sister Kimoletha Austin.
Eleanor's journey through life was one of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She moved to Los Angeles, California, where she graduated from Manual Arts High School in 1970. Driven by her passion for beauty and style, she pursued a career as a professional beautician after completing her education at beauty college. For over two decades, she was the trusted hairdresser for many, known for her impeccable taste and creativity.
On January 10th, 1971, Eleanor married the love of her life, Joseph Douglas III, in Los Angeles. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming four sons: Joseph Henry Douglas IV, who preceded her in passing, Brian Keith Douglas, Shaun Anthony Douglas, and Corey Nathaniel Douglas. Though their marriage lasted 12 years, the love and bond they shared remained ever-present in their family.
Later in life, Eleanor found her true calling in the field of Adult Caregiving, where she served as an Administrator for Adult Residential Facilities for over 20 years. Her empathy and nurturing spirit made her a cherished figure to all she cared for. Always seeking to grow and learn, Eleanor ventured into Medical Billing, with plans to complete her requirements in September 2026.
Eleanor had a zest for life that was evident in her many hobbies and interests. She delighted in cooking and baking, often filling her home with the comforting aromas of her culinary creations. As an ardent fan of Luther Vandross and Angie Stone, music was a constant companion in her life. She had a talent for designing exquisite gift baskets and was equally devoted to caring for others, always offering a helping hand or a warm meal to those in need. Her home was a sanctuary where friends and family gathered, enveloped in her warmth and hospitality.
Eleanor's legacy lives on in her surviving family members: her sister Kimoletha, her sons Brian & Maria (Candy), Shaun & Maria Hunter-Douglas, and Corey Douglas, her 10 grandchildren, Kiara, Tamera, Meleah, Kamryn, Kailoni, Noble, Christian, Christopher, Kawaui, Kayden, and honorary grandson Timothy, as well as her three great-grandchildren, Melania, Myla, Legend, and the eagerly anticipated arrival of baby Molina. Her goddaughter Judith, along with a host of friends and extended family, will forever cherish her memory.
Eleanor was a woman of remarkable character, known for her infectious smile, bold hairstyles, and long nails that mirrored her vibrant personality. Her fashion sense was as distinct as her generous spirit, which touched the lives of many. She opened her heart and home to all, embodying kindness and grace in all her endeavors.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that those wishing to honor Eleanor's memory consider making a donation to a charity close to her heart.
