Elder Jeffrey Thomas Potts
January 19, 1962 — October 3, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of Elder Jeffrey Thomas Potts, who departed this life unexpectedly on October 3, 2026. Born on January 19, 1962, in Columbus, Ohio, Jeffrey was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew him.
Jeffrey was the cherished son of the late Olen and Rose Bud Potts and was predeceased by his beloved brothers, Ronald and Malcom. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann, with whom he celebrated 35 years of a loving marriage that began on a winter day in 2004. Together, they raised four extraordinary sons, Ryan (Tricia), Brandon (Kendall), Justin (Katy), and Jordan, and were blessed with seven grandchildren: Brayden, Louis, Oliver, AnnaLynn, Bellamy Casey, Joseph Roush, and soon-to-be Indie Grace McKibben. His brother Steve Potts, sister-in-law Josie, close cousin Eric Potts, and his extended church family at Life Changers Church also survive him.
A graduate of Linsly Military Institute in 1980, Jeffrey furthered his education at Devry, Franklin University, Columbus State Community College, and the International Apostolic University of Grace & Truth. His dedication to service was evident through his military service with the Army National Guard from 1981 to 1984.
Jeffrey's professional life was marked by a distinguished 31-year career with the State of Ohio Industrial Commission, where he served as the OCSEA Statewide Assembly and Industrial Commission Chapter 2525 President. He was a passionate advocate for education and workforce development, holding leadership roles within the Greater Columbus NAACP committee and the HUB of Ohio. His career also included significant contributions at JP Morgan Chase and Amazon CMH4 in West Jefferson. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jeffrey found joy in officiating basketball for over 20 years.
A man of deep faith, Jeffrey was an Elder and Assistant Superintendent at Life Changers Church, dedicated to Christian education and community service through initiatives like the Common Ground Food Pantry. His commitment extended to his roles as a MOF Board Member and an Agency Advisory Council member to the Mid Ohio Food Pantry in Grove City, Ohio.
Jeffrey lived a life filled with passion for music, sports, and coaching youth baseball and basketball. He was deeply devoted to his family, his church community, and his beloved Bishop Jerome and First Lady Linda Bostic. Known for his warm hugs, welcoming smile, and encouraging words, Jeffrey had an unparalleled ability to make everyone feel loved and cherished.
In honor of his memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Life Changers Church or the Mid Ohio Food Pantry, causes that were dear to Jeffrey’s heart.
Elder Jeffrey Thomas Potts leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Grace be to God he is now at eternal peace.
The family would like to send out a special thanks to Dr. Emily Saul and the staff at Columbus Oncology and hematology for their excellent and compassionate care.
