Elden Roger Moon

October 19, 1924 — March 12, 2026

Elden Roger Moon, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on March 12, 2026, at the age of 101. Born on October 19, 1924, in the quaint town of Hesper, Iowa, Elden’s life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the betterment of others. The son of Arthur and Inez (Rowe) Moon, Elden was raised with a strong sense of community and a deep-rooted respect for education. He carried these values with him throughout his life, earning a Doctorate in Education, which laid the foundation for his esteemed career as an educator, teacher, and administrator. His professional journey saw him nurture young minds and shape futures at the Cedar Rapids School District, Amana High School, and later with Iowa National Insurance. In 1941, at the tender age of 17, Elden answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Navy. His service during World War II was marked by courage and dedication, and upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned home to begin a new chapter of his life. It was in Scranton, Iowa, on December 16, 1945, that Elden married the love of his life, Arlene Hazel (Clark) Moon. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and together they built a family that was the pride and joy of Elden’s heart. Elden is survived by his devoted wife, Arlene, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward his legacy of kindness and integrity. Elden's life was enriched by his active membership in St. Marks United Methodist Church, where he found spiritual nourishment and a community that cherished his presence. He was a man of varied interests and talents, finding joy in the strategic challenges of bridge, the craftsmanship of woodworking, and the competitive spirit of tennis and golf. Fishing provided him a peaceful escape, while time spent with family was his greatest treasure. To those who knew him, Elden was a loyal and dedicated individual, a loving presence who embraced his roles as husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather with pride. He was a colleague who inspired respect and admiration and a friend whose warmth and kindness touched the hearts of many. In keeping with Elden's wishes, a private family ceremony will be held to celebrate his extraordinary life. As we say goodbye, we hold dear the memories and the indelible mark he left on our hearts. We take solace in knowing that Elden's spirit lives on in the love and laughter of those he leaves behind. May Elden Roger Moon rest in peace, forever remembered with love and gratitude.
