December 5, 1969 — May 8, 2026
Elaine Taylor, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina. Born on December 5, 1969, in Newark, New Jersey, Elaine was the cherished daughter of the late David L. Taylor, Sr. and Joanne H. Taylor. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Elaine's early years were spent growing up in a loving family, where she was instilled with values of compassion and hard work. She attended Bertie High School in Windsor, NC, where she forged lifelong friendships and developed a keen sense of community. Her path led her to a fulfilling career at Reliable Home Health Care, where she dedicated over 23 years of her life to caring for others with the utmost professionalism and empathy.
Elaine's nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life and into her personal interests. Her love for gardening and maintaining flower beds transformed her surroundings into a vibrant tapestry of colors, a reflection of her creative soul. Her home was a sanctuary, lovingly decorated to welcome family and friends with warmth and comfort. Elaine had a flair for cooking and was known for her delicious meals that brought everyone together around her table.
In her community, Elaine was an active member of Piney Wood Chapel Missionary Baptist Church from a young age, where her voice graced the choir and uplifted the spirits of the congregation. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing strength and solace in times of need.
Elaine's family was her greatest pride and joy. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Kenneth Earl Basnight, who stood by her side through life's joys and challenges. Her legacy lives on in her children: her son, Donald Bond, Jr., and her daughters, Janeshia Taylor, Jyesha Taylor, and Moesha Harrell. Her love and guidance will continue to light the way for her brother, David Taylor, Jr., her sister, Chowaine Taylor, and her step-sister, Quaneshia White.
Elaine was blessed with 14 grandchildren, each a precious reminder of her enduring legacy. She also leaves behind her aunt, Shebert Rankins, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity. Her nephew, Kycen Taylor, who preceded her in death, remains forever in her heart.
In this time of sorrow, the family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who have offered their support. "Your kindness, phone calls, cards, and presence have meant the world to us during this difficult time. Knowing how much Elaine was loved brings us comfort. We appreciate every one of you."
Elaine Taylor's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and compassion. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the precious memories and the light she brought into our lives. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten, as her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she loved.
