In Loving Memory

Elaine "Susan" Alspaugh
August 9, 1949 — May 28, 2026
Elaine "Susan" Alspaugh, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 28, 2026 in Broomfield, CO. Born on August 9, 1949, in Clay Center, Nebraska, Susan was a cherished daughter of Clifford and Christina Hill. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Vernon, her sister Lila, and her devoted husband, Delbert Alspaugh.
Susan was a graduate of Clay Center High School and Hastings Beauty Academy. Susan's professional life was marked by over five decades as a hairdresser. She worked at Roberta's Beauty Salon in Sutton, Beauty Manor in Lincoln, and most notably, at Tabitha Senior Care, where she worked until her retirement in 2021.
On August 5, 1973, Susan married the love of her life, Delbert Alspaugh, in Clay Center, Nebraska. The couple eventually made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they welcomed their daughter, Kimberly, in 1982. Together, they created a home filled with love, and enjoyed their friendships with many neighbors, often hosting homemade ice cream parties and impromptu talent shows by the neighbor kids. Susan always made Christmas a special time of year for her family: she enjoyed baking cookies and party mix; singing carols; thoughtfully selecting gifts; decorating inside and out; and slowing down to spend extra time with family and friends. If a friend of Kimberly's couldn't make it to their family for Christmas, Susan made sure they had a place at the dinner table, gifts under the tree, and feeling of belonging.
Susan committed her life to helping others. She cared for her sister, Melody, from the time she was a baby, and they shared a special bond for the rest of her life. She was a caretaker for her husband, Delbert, for decades as he struggled with several health problems. She provided her daughter, Kimberly, with more unconditional love and unending support than anyone can imagine. During her 21 years working at Tabitha Senior Care, Susan brought the residents joy and laughter and made them feel beautiful. She treated every resident with patience and compassion.
In her limited free time, Susan enjoyed swim aerobics and spending time with her dog: going on walks, playing, and snuggling. She adored her grandchildren, Scarlett & Lincoln, and happily played along with whatever they were excited about. You could find her reading them a story, singing a song together, playing with toys, or enjoying a park.
Susan is survived by her sister Melody Hill, her daughter Kimberly Alspaugh-Humecky and son-in-law Luke Humecky, and her treasured grandchildren, Scarlett and Lincoln. Her lifelong friend, Sheryel Marquardt, will also profoundly feel her absence.
A memorial service to celebrate Susan's life will be held on August 23, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, located at 8300 E. Pointe Rd., Lincoln, NE.
