Elaine Nichols
October 31, 1950 - May 30, 2026
Elaine Nichols, a beloved wife, stepmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at the McClure Miller Respite House, enveloped in the love of her family and friends, following a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.
Born in the quaint town of St. Albans on October 31, 1950, Elaine was the cherished daughter of Trevor Brow and Pauline Mott. She grew up in a loving family where the value of hard work and compassion were instilled in her from a young age. Elaine was a proud alumna of the Class of 1969 from St. Anne’s Academy in Swanton, Vermont, a place where she formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Elaine dedicated three decades of her life to a rewarding career at IBM as a manufacturing specialist and department technician. Her commitment and skill earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Upon retiring, Elaine found joy in a part-time role at JCPenney, a position that perfectly complemented her passion for shopping and allowed her to bring happiness to others.
Elaine was preceded in death by her loving parents, her sister-in-law, Ganny Brow, and her brother-in-law, Roland Nichols. Her legacy of love and kindness lives on through her devoted husband, Albert Nichols, with whom she celebrated 39 years of marriage and 51 years of partnership. She leaves behind her stepdaughter, Amy Poulin, and her husband, Geoffrey; her brother, Wayne Brow; her dear step-grandchildren, Kyle Nichols and his girlfriend, Sarah Williamson, and Ashley Poulin.
Elaine's family extended beyond immediate relations. She is survived by her nephews, Mark Brow and his wife Rachael, and Steven Brow and his wife Jody; her sisters-in-law, Florence, and Irene and her husband Gary; her brother-in-law, Paul and his wife Joanne; along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Elaine's life was filled with simple joys and passions. She loved reading and taking long walks with her dear friend Carole, and she had an affinity for nature. Her heart was always warmed by feeding the birds and observing the wildlife surrounding her home. Elaine's artistic talents shone through her painting, sewing, and cross-stitching. Perhaps her most remarkable creation was the '50 States' quilt, stitched with love alongside her friend Anza Myers, and donated to the Vermont Air National Guard.
Travel was another of Elaine's great loves, especially with her sister-in-law, Irene. Among her favorite adventures were the trips to Hawaii, a paradise she was fortunate to visit three times. Closer to home, Elaine cherished the moments spent at the Look Out Ridge cabin, a sanctuary she and Albert built together. It became a haven for family and friends, filled with laughter and cherished memories.
In honor of Elaine's lifelong love for animals, her family has requested that donations be made to the Franklin County Humane Society in her name. Contributions can be made through the memorial fund at this link.
Elaine's family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Terry Nielsen and her team, Dr. Robert Martel and his team, and the compassionate staff at the McClure Miller Respite House for their exceptional care and support. Special thanks go to Heidi Littlefield, whose generous spirit and care brought comfort and nourishment during this challenging time.
Elaine Nichols' legacy is one of love, resilience, and joy. She touched the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will forever be cherished by those she leaves behind. Her spirit will continue to inspire us to find joy in simple pleasures and to cherish our loved ones dearly.
