Elaine Avalon Gilmore, a beloved member of the community and a beacon of kindness and strength, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on July 31, 1942, in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, California, Elaine was the cherished daughter of Harold and Mattie Bentley. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Dovonal Bentley, and her sister Haroldine Perry, who all held a special place in her heart throughout her life.
Elaine spent her formative years in California, cultivating a deep love for music from the age of 5 years old. She attended Lake Elsinore High School, where her passion for music continued. Driven by her dedication to personal growth and education, she went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from Riverside Community College. Her academic journey culminated in a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Cal Baptist University, a testament to her unwavering commitment to her passion.
Elaine dedicated 21 years of her professional life to the University of California, Riverside, where she worked diligently as a Parking Enforcement Officer. Her colleagues and the campus community fondly remember her as a steadfast presence with a kind word for everyone she met. Elaine’s commitment to her role and her warm, approachable nature made a lasting impact on those around her.
After her retirement from UCR, Elaine began teaching music at Loveland Academy in Fontana California where she taught countless students not only the art of music, but also gave them insight as to why music is considered the universal language.
Family was of paramount importance to Elaine, and she leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her children Troy Baskin, Lisa Chapman, Leslie James, Diana Lewis, Robert Talley, and Steven Gilmore Jr. Elaine’s nurturing spirit and unwavering support were the cornerstone of her family, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.
In remembering Elaine, one cannot forget her love of music, which weaved through every aspect of her life. Whether she was singing, playing an instrument, or simply enjoying the melodies of life, music was a constant companion that brought her joy and peace.
Elaine Avalon Gilmore will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and passion for music will continue to inspire all who knew her. May her soul find eternal peace.
