In loving memory, we honor the life of Eileen C. DiChello, a remarkable woman whose spirit, grace, and love enriched the lives of everyone she touched. Eileen passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by her devoted family. She was born on June 7, 1935, in Mahopac, New York, to Gerald and Helen Miller Carey.
Eileen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Helen Miller Carey, her loving husband of 57 years, Adolph A. DiChello, her sisters Rosemary Carey Gilbert and Suzanne Carey Mattson, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Theresa and Ralph Proulx, and her nephew Colin Carey. Her legacy continues through her daughter, Eileen DiChello and partner Sal of North Haven; her sons, Stephen DiChello and wife Lisa, and Bill DiChello and his spouse Alicia of Meriden. Eileen cherished her role as a grandmother to 12 wonderful grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 9 precious great-grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are brother Jay Carey in California, brother Johnny Carey and his wife Phylis of Clinton, CT, sister Mary Ann Forbes of Northford, CT, and brother-in-law John Mattson of East Haven, CT.
Eileen's life was a tapestry of love, adventure, and dedication. After marrying Adolph in August 1955, they began their journey in New Haven and later settled in Hamden, CT. Eileen's career was a testament to her compassionate nature, working as a paraprofessional with the Hamden Board of Education, where she made a lasting impact on children with disabilities and their families. Her work was a reflection of her boundless patience, empathy, and radiant personality.
Her love for nature and community was evident through her active participation in the Mount Carmel Garden Club and the Sleeping Giant Park Association. Eileen and Adolph shared countless adventures hiking and traveling the world, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Her early years in Niantic and West Haven were filled with joyous moments fishing along the shores with family, a testament to her love for the simple pleasures of life. In 1952, Eileen's beauty and charm were recognized when she was crowned Miss Savin Rock in a "bathing beauty contest" at Wilcox's Beach.
Eileen's zest for life was contagious. She was an avid reader and a skilled crossword puzzle enthusiast. Her passion for birdwatching was a shared joy with her children and grandchildren, fostering a love for nature across generations. Eileen's striking blue eyes, radiant smile, and occasionally colorful language lit up every room she entered. She had an extraordinary ability to listen and provide comfort to those in need, offering her warmth and wisdom generously.
A service to celebrate Eileen's life will be held on May 26, 2026, from 4PM- 7PM at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney ave, Hamden Ct, 06518. a mass for burial will be May 27, at Our Lady of Mt Carmel, located at 2819 Whitney Ave, Hamden, CT. In honoring Eileen's memory, let us carry forward her legacy of love, kindness, and joy for life. She will forever be remembered in our hearts, a guiding light for all who knew and loved her.
