August 14, 1936 — July 15, 2026
E. Faye Taylor Greenwood, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at her home on July 15, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on August 14, 1936, in Dover, Delaware, Faye was the daughter of William and Mary Ester Short. Her life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit that touched everyone she met.
Faye grew up in the charming town of Dover, where she attended school in Leipsic and later in Dover. Her formative years were marked by a close-knit family and a community that shaped her warm and vivacious personality. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Luvia Slacum, Margie Warr, and Barbara Ann Spangler; brothers Buddy and Wayne Short; and beloved sons Richard Albert and William Wayne (Willie) Taylor.
Faye's vibrant personality was perhaps best showcased during her years as a waitress and the proud owner of Scan's Coffee Shop in Smyrna. Her infectious laugh, genuine kindness, and candid humor left a lasting impression on the countless customers who became lifelong friends. She had a unique gift of making everyone feel special and welcomed, a trait that endeared her to many.
A lover of country music, Faye found joy in the melodies of George Jones, Conway Twitty, and Toby Keith. Her favorite tunes, "Tight Fitting Jeans" and "He Stopped Loving Her Today," were the soundtrack to a life lived fully and joyously. Faye was a people person through and through, always ready to share a dance or lend an ear.
She is survived by her devoted children: Barbara Carney (Greg) of Smyrna, Susan Taylor of Smyrna, with whom she lived, Ricky Taylor of Lincoln, Mark Taylor (Lisa) of Warwick, MD, Mary Taylor of Clayton, and Lisa Taylor of Felton. Her legacy of warmth and humor lives on in her 14 grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
In keeping with her family's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor and celebrate Faye's life. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice in Faye's memory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Delaware Hospice for their unwavering support and compassion, especially to her nurse Jessica and her aide Jamie, whom Faye affectionately called her friend.
As we remember E. Faye Taylor Greenwood, let us celebrate a life that was as vibrant as a country song and as warm as a heartfelt embrace. Her legacy will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege to know her.
