Edwina Gibson

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Edwina Gibson, who departed this world peacefully in her sleep on July 12, 2026, at the home of her daughter, following a brief illness. Born on December 26, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan, Edwina was a beacon of light whose presence blessed all who knew her. Edwina was the beloved daughter of Mrs. Jean Ward. She grew up surrounded by love and carried this with her throughout her life. Preceded in death by her cherished family members, Timur Baruti, Thomas Gibson Jr., and Orlando Gibson, Edwina’s legacy continues through the lives of those she leaves behind. She is survived by her devoted children, Dominica Gibson, Shaunnie Gibson, and Isiah Gibson, as well as her dear son-in-law, Olasupo Lanipekun. She also leaves behind her loving siblings, Shirley Ali, Bertha Gibson, Renea Gibson, and Shawn Gibson, along with her adored grandchildren, who number four and were the light of her life. A graduate who took pride in continuous learning, Edwina was an active member of the Greater Bible Way Temple in Jackson, Michigan, and participated in various community groups. Her faith and commitment to service were evident in all she did, from her involvement with the church to her volunteer work at the local food pantry. Known for her radiant smile and boundless generosity, Edwina touched many lives with her kindness and compassion. Edwina’s passions were as vibrant as her spirit. She was an avid painter and a lover of dance, expressing herself with grace and creativity. A good swimmer and an admirer of nature, she found joy in the beauty of the world around her. Her love for animals was just another testament to her gentle and caring nature. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has offered support in any form during this difficult time. Your kindness and generosity have been a source of comfort and strength. In honor of Edwina’s memory and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local food pantry or animal shelter, causes that were close to her heart. Though Edwina has left this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and joy will live on forever in our hearts.
