Edwin Ross McCoy, III

Edwin Ross McCoy, III passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents Eunice Watson McCoy and Edwin Ross McCoy, Jr. Ed was a 1966 graduate of Myers Park High School and attended Wingate University. He began his career at McCoy Service Company working in the family oil business. McCoy Service Company was a Charlotte based discount gasoline marketer and home heating oil delivery service that operated approximately 40 stations over a period of 40 years from the 1930s through the late 1970s. The McCoy family eventually transitioned to the Cavalier brand name before exiting the oil business in the late 1970’s. Upon exiting the oil business, the McCoy brothers created Parkway Advertising Corporation, an outdoor advertising business. Simultaneously during this period, Ed was a commercial real estate developer. Ed’s love of travel and sense of adventure led him to visit Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and the North Pole. Although his favorite destination was Wild Dunes Resort, Isle of Palms, SC where he enjoyed annual family reunions and hosting friends for the Annual Cooper River Bridge Runs. In Charlotte, through his active participation with Dowd YMCA, he enjoyed the camaraderie with his friends and served on their Board of Directors. Ed was well- known for his generosity with friends and relatives. Ed is survived by his brothers, Gary McCoy (Cathy) and Michael McCoy (LuAnne); niece Laura McCoy Goodyear and nephews Patrick McCoy (Caty), Ian McCoy (Alexis Baxley), and Dylan McCoy (Julia); great-nephews Knox and Hayes Goodyear, Jack and Charlie McCoy; and great-niece Reece Goodyear. A memorial service to honor Ed’s life will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday July 9, 2026, at Pritchard Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Dowd YMCA, 400 East Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 28202 and/or to Pritchard Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203
