Edwin D. Sled Jr

September 19, 1960 — May 20, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin D. Sled Jr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Ed departed from this world on May 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer, which he faced with unwavering strength and determination for four years. He was 65 years old. Born on September 19, 1960, in Fontana, California, Ed was the beloved son of Reva June Hansen and Edwin D. Sled. He was preceded in death by his dear parents and his beloved partner and mother of his children, Margaret Mary McAlarney, who passed away in July of 2007. Ed was also predeceased by his siblings in spirit, as they were always close in his heart. Ed is survived by his devoted son, James P. McAlarney, his loving daughter, Page M. Sled, and his treasured grandchildren, Adelynn M. McAlarney, Isla J. McAlarney, and Arielle M. Sled, who brought immense joy to his life. His legacy of love and laughter continues through them. Ed spent his early years in Fontana, where he developed a deep love for family and community. He was known as a protector, always ready to share joy and laughter with those around him. Though at times stubborn, Ed was a man full of warmth and love, never passing judgment but always willing to offer a guiding lecture when needed. Throughout his career, Ed displayed a remarkable work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. He spent many years as a delivery driver, distributing candies to Blockbusters across California, a job he cherished for the smiles it brought to others. When the company moved to New York, Ed adapted, taking on various jobs to support his family. He concluded his career with C.H.I Overhead Doors, where he worked until his diagnosis in 2022. Ed's life was enriched by his passions—none more cherished than the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He took immense pride in being a grandpa, finding joy in every moment spent with his family. Whether watching his favorite shows with his sister Terri over the phone or cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers during the NFL season, Ed's life was filled with simple pleasures and profound love. His warmth and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Ed had a unique ability to make others feel valued and understood, always ready to lend a helping hand. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to family. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take solace in the memories he leaves behind—a testament to a life well-lived and a heart that touched so many. Ed will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A memorial service to honor Ed's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Ed's memory to a cancer research foundation of your choice. Rest in peace, dear Ed. Your love and laughter will echo in our hearts forever.
