It is with profound sadness yet enduring gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Edward Sokolowski, who departed this world peacefully on April 15, 2026, at the remarkable age of 99. Edward, affectionately known as "Uncle Ed" to his cherished nieces and nephews, was born on March 24, 1927, in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, New York, to his beloved parents, Hipolit and Josephine Sokolowski. Edward grew up in a loving household with his sister, Emelia Baxter, who, along with their parents, predeceased him. The values instilled in him during his early years on the bustling streets of Brooklyn served as a solid foundation for a life marked by dedication, compassion, and achievement. Following his graduation, he answered the call of duty and served as a Quartermaster in the Navy during the tumultuous years of World War II, demonstrating remarkable bravery and a deep sense of duty to his country. In 1950, Edward graduated from New York University, a testament to his unwavering commitment to education and personal growth. In April of 1953, Edward married the love of his life, Maureen Baldock, during a beautiful ceremony in Cincinnati, Ohio. Together, they embarked on a journey that spanned 57 years of love, partnership, and mutual support until Maureen's passing. Their union was a testament to unwavering devotion and shared dreams. Edward's professional life was as distinguished as his personal one. In 1952, he began his career as a Civil Engineer with Vogt, Ivers, Seaman & Associates in Cincinnati. His exceptional talents and leadership skills quickly became apparent, leading to his appointment as chief engineer of the San Antonio office in 1959. This move marked the beginning of his deep connection to Texas, where he would make significant contributions to the field of engineering. In the same year, Edward joined International Aerial Mapping and rose to the position of president in 1971. His professional accomplishments were numerous, including serving as president of the Bexar chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers in 1968-1969 and earning the prestigious title of Engineer of the Year in 1974. His election as national director of the American Society of Civil Engineers in the same year was a crowning achievement in his illustrious career. Beyond his professional endeavors, Edward was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club, where he served as a past president, embodying the spirit of service above self. He was a man of simple yet brilliant intellect, whose love for his family was matched only by his passion for golf, a sport he enjoyed throughout his life. Edward's passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, including his devoted caregivers, Jessica and Lilly, who provided him with comfort and companionship in his later years. Though he leaves behind a legacy of professional excellence and personal integrity, it is his warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for his family that will be most deeply missed. As we bid farewell to Edward Sokolowski, we celebrate a life filled with love, accomplishment, and enduring impact. May his memory serve as a guiding light and a source of inspiration for all who knew and loved him.
