February 13, 1938 — January 1, 2026

Edward Odell Hoggle, lovingly known as Ed, passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 1, 2026, closing out a remarkable journey of 87 years. Born on February 13, 1938, in the heart of Alabama, Ed's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and vibrant experiences, woven together by his southern charm and steadfast spirit. Ed was the cherished son of Dovie Cooke and Sam Hoggle. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley May Hoggle, with whom he shared a beautiful life spanning 67 years, marking the start of their journey together with a memorable double wedding on New Year's Day 1959 in Tahoe, Nevada. Ed and Shirley were united in love alongside Ed's brother Austin Venoy Hoggle and Shirley's sister, creating bonds that transcended time. Ed's legacy is carried forward by his loving daughter Tina Marie Jervell-Harris and her husband Jacob, along with his devoted sister Betty Houston, sister Joan Davis, and sister-in-law LaVerne L. Hoggle. A dedicated family man, Ed was a proud grandfather to Shane Edward Nunes (Ashley), Chance Martin Hoggle (Courtney), Ondreya Hoggle, and Jessica Hoggle. His love and wisdom also enriched the lives of his great-grandchildren Harper Hoggle, Hunter Hoggle, Haven Hoggle, Tessa Nunes, Klaus Nunes, Logan Nunes, and many nieces and nephews, including Audina (DeeDee) L. Andris, Wendy V. Johnson, Lisa Owens-Huff, Ty Owens, and Glenda Caffee. Ed served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959, a period during which his musical talents thrived as he played rhythm guitar and sang in a band, even performing at the special request of his naval captain. His post-military career saw him excel as a manager at various cement companies for over 25 years, where he was respected for his leadership and dedication before retiring. An active member of Solomons Temple Baptist Church, Ed was a man of faith who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether casting a fishing line, hunting in the great outdoors, camping with family, or cheering at his grandchildren's ball games, Ed embraced each moment with enthusiasm. His love for music remained a lifelong passion, and he delighted many with his performances alongside his brother at local venues. Ed was a man of many talents, known for his quick wit, dancing skills, and suave southern charm. His generosity knew no bounds, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. A skilled carpenter, he took pride in building enclosed patios and a barn, leaving behind tangible reminders of his craftsmanship. In honor of his giving nature, donations in Ed’s memory can be made to Tunnel to Towers, reflecting his commitment to helping others. As per the family's special message, Ed will be laid to rest alongside his beloved Shirley (and cherished pets) at Solomons Temple Baptist in Kingsport, Tennessee. Though he has departed from this world, Edward Odell Hoggle's spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, laughter, and southern hospitality will forever be cherished and celebrated by his family and friends.
