Edward Luther Longley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in the heart of Dayton, Ohio, on January 23, 1948, Edward was the cherished son of the late Luther and Adele Longley. His life, marked by love, laughter, and resilience, leaves a lasting legacy for all who were fortunate enough to know him. Edward was a bright young man, graduating from Vandalia Butler High School in 1966 before furthering his education at Wright State University, where he graduated in 1979. Driven by a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to his family, Edward built a successful career as a property manager, where he was respected for his integrity and dedication. On September 4, 1971, Edward married the love of his life, Waltraut Kopping, originally from Canada. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and companionship that spanned 54 wonderful years. Their union was blessed with two children, Kelly Goens and Kevin Longley, who, along with their spouses Ryan and Carrie, were the pride and joy of Edward’s life. Family was the cornerstone of Edward’s existence. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to six grandchildren: Connor, Payton, Cohen, Myka, Silvia, and Evie. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and he loved them beyond measure. Edward is also survived by his loving sisters, Dianne, Peggy, and Marilyn, and his brother, Dave. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Danny Longley, whose memories he cherished deeply. Edward was a man of many passions. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often spending leisurely afternoons playing golf with family and friends or enjoying the tranquility of fishing. A devout sports enthusiast, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. Those who knew him will remember his ever-present smile and his remarkable attitude, which never wavered, even in the face of adversity. A celebration of Edward’s life will be held on April 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia, Ohio. Those wishing to honor his memory are encouraged to make donations to the Hospice of Dayton, an organization that provided comfort and care to Edward and his family during his final days. Edward Longley’s legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering kindness. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him, continuing to inspire and uplift.
