In Loving Memory

Edward Louis Hooper Jr
March 11, 1952 — April 9, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt love that we share the passing of Edward Louis Hooper Jr., affectionately known as "Jr," who departed this life on April 9, 2026, surrounded by the comforting presence of his beloved family. Jr was born on March 11, 1952, in Chesapeake, Virginia, to the late Edward Louis Hooper Sr. and Mary Louise Watson-Hooper. His gentle spirit and enduring love have left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Jr's early years were spent in Nansmond County, where he attended Crestwood High School. It was during these formative years that his passion for fixing cars emerged, leading him to pursue a lifelong career as a skilled mechanic. His gifted hands found a home at Merchant Tires and Kramer Goodyear, where his expertise and dedication were cherished.
Beyond his talents with automobiles, Jr had a soul that resonated with the rhythm of life. He found joy in the art of singing, drawing, and playing the bass guitar, sharing his creative gifts with all those around him. His music was a testament to his vibrant spirit and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures.
In 1983, Jr's life was enriched by his union with Sandra Elizabeth Ellis, a partnership that brought him immense joy and fulfillment. Through their marriage, Jr embraced four step-children and together they welcomed three more children, creating a family bound by love and resilience.
Jr was preceded in death by cherished family members, including his Aunt Lottie Brown, sister Stephanie Watson, Uncle Robert Watson, grandson Devontae’ Artis, daughter Jeannette Griffin, son Christopher Ellis, and son Timothy Odom. Their memories and love remain etched in his heart.
His legacy continues through his devoted wife Sandra Hooper, his children Linda Davis (Elijah), Tonya Curry (Nathaniel), Terri White (Joshua), and Edward Hooper. Jr leaves behind a tapestry of love woven through his 14 grandchildren — Shanel, Felicia, Shaniqua, Darryl, Eulonzo, Elijah, Donya’, Alesia, Zanayla, Reginald, Arihanna, King, Amaya, Edward IV — and his four great-grandchildren Daniyah, Destiny, Devontae, and Zariyah. His niece Trisha Watson and nephew Mari’s Watson also hold his memory dear, along with a multitude of other relatives and friends who were blessed by his kindness and warmth.
A service to celebrate Jr's life will be held on April 15, 2026, at 12:30 PM at the Smyrna Church of Holy Disciples, located at 741 Marshall Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia 23504. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a wonderful man whose life was a testament to love, hard work, and the joy of family.
In this time of loss, the Hooper family extends their deepest gratitude for the overwhelming love and support received. Your kindness and comforting words have been a beacon of solace, and we are eternally grateful.
"Though he may be gone from our sight, Jr remains forever in our hearts."
