February 29, 1944 — September 30, 2026

Edward Lee Hutchison, 82, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. Ed was Born on February 29, 1944, to the late Wilfred and Mildred (Poag) Hutchison of Boonville, Indiana. He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1962 and served in the United States Army as a tank and vehicle mechanic, with a tour in Korea guarding the U.S. sector of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Ed studied and worked diligently to build his career as a union electrician with IBEW Local 16 in Evansville. He met each day with a strong work ethic, taking pride in completing jobs thoroughly and efficiently. Off the job, Ed shared his skills and knowledge to help friends and family with numerous repairs and projects, often teaching tricks of the trade along the way. Ed loved the outdoors. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting with a bow, and fishing was always a favorite pastime. Salmon float trips with friends on the Pere Marquette River were special adventures. He also found great satisfaction in growing a large garden and canning each year, and carefully tending his flower beds. Relaxing and barbecuing with friends and family in the backyard he manicured was a highlight. Indoors, Ed spent time bowling in leagues with friends. And, he loved cheering on his Indiana Hoosiers. But most of all, Ed was a devoted husband to JoAnn for 59 years. Together, they raised Lee Ann and Britt and built a loving home full of laughter and fun times. Ed leaves his wife and children with many cherished memories from the simple ones of their home always rocking with Ed’s favorite music to treat nights at Dairy Queen to their eventful road trips to Clearwater and Disney World. Ed adored his grandchildren and loved spending his retirement years with them. Teaching them to fish, camping, Holiday World outings, competitive rounds of mini golf, family vacations, and beyond, they will always cherish their time with Grandpa. Ed was preceded in death by his siblings, Cheryl Sue Hopper, Darrel Hutchison, and Glenn Dee Folsom; and nephew, James Hopper. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, JoAnn (Simon) Hutchison; children Lee Ann Mellon (Michael) and Britt Hutchison (Shannon Hawkins); grandchildren, Benjamin Mellon, Samuel Mellon, Nathan Hutchison and Delaney Hutchison; siblings, Anna Hubert and Alfred Hutchison; and many extended family members and friends. Friends and family loved Ed for his loyalty, hard work, generosity, and dry sense of humor. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
