It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edward Harris Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on July 9, 2026. Born on February 18, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee, Edward was a beacon of warmth and wisdom for all who had the privilege of knowing him. He left this world surrounded by his loving family, embraced by angels, and guided by God to his eternal rest.
Edward was the cherished son of the late Edward Harris Sr. and Cora Sykes Harris. He is now reunited with them, as well as his beloved son, Michael Harris, his sisters, Zola Mae Matthews, Izola Harris Davis, and Blanche Mae Crawford, and his brothers, Charlie Bland, Robert Bland, and Elmer Harris Sr., who predeceased him.
His legacy of love continues through those he leaves behind, including his devoted wife, Josie Schuler Harris, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories and unwavering companionship. He is also survived by his two sons, Jeffery Harris and Delvit Rogers, along with Delvit's wife, Vanessa. His daughter, Gayle Harris, also carries on his spirit, as do his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Edward's extended family, including a host of nieces -Corene(Lenard) Wells, nephews, and dear friends, will forever treasure the moments shared with him.
Throughout his life, Edward embodied kindness, integrity, resilience and tenacity. His journey was marked by a dedication to family and music, which lead him to writing songs in 1965. Songs such as " I Care For You, I Believe I'll Go Back Home and Sweeter As The Day Go By" just to name a few. He was known for his gentle humor, boundless generosity, and the wisdom he imparted with a soft but stern grace. His presence was a source of comfort and strength, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A service to celebrate the life of Edward Harris Jr. will be held on July 25, 2026 @ 12pm-1:30pm, Location: R Benard Funeral Services 2764 Lamar Avenue Memphis TN. 38114. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a life well-lived, sharing in the memories and stories that defined his remarkable journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Edward's memory to a charity of your choice, allowing his spirit of giving to continue to touch lives.
Edward Harris Jr. will be dearly missed, yet his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace, embraced by the light of the angels and the love of those who have gone before him.
