It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Edward H. Sokolowski on April 15, 2026, at the age of 99. Born on March 24, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York, Edward was a beloved son of the late Hipolit and Josephine Sokolowski and a devoted brother to his late sister, Emelia Baxter. Edward was a man whose life was guided by principles of service, integrity, and dedication. As a young man, he joined the United States Naval Reserves in 1944, displaying courage and commitment from an early age. After serving his country with pride, Edward pursued a career in civil engineering, graduating from New York University in 1950. His education laid the foundation for a distinguished career that spanned several decades. Edward began his professional journey with Vogt, Ivers, Seaman & Associates in 1952, where his talent and hard work quickly earned him a leadership position as the chief engineer of their San Antonio office by 1959. Later that same year, he joined International Aerial Mapping, where his exceptional skills and visionary leadership propelled him to the role of president in 1971. His contributions to the field were recognized when he was named Engineer of the Year in 1974, and he served as the national director of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Edward also held the esteemed position of president of the Bexar chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers in 1968 and 1969. Outside of his professional achievements, Edward was a dedicated member and past president of the Rotary Club, where he extended his commitment to service beyond his career, impacting countless lives through his philanthropy and leadership. In April 1953, Edward married the love of his life, Maureen Baldock Sokolowski, with whom he shared decades of happiness, love, and companionship until her passing. Together, they built a life rich in love and shared dreams, and their union was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Edward is survived by his dear friend, Madelyn, who stood by his side in his later years, offering companionship and support. He was also lovingly cared for by Jessica and Lilly, whose dedication and compassion provided comfort to Edward and his family. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory and the legacy of kindness, wisdom, and humility he imparted. As we remember Edward, we celebrate a life that was marked by extraordinary achievements, unwavering dedication to his profession, and a profound love for those he held dear. His warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit touched all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. In honoring Edward's wishes, a private family service will be held to celebrate his remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Edward's memory, reflecting his lifelong commitment to making the world a better place. Edward H. Sokolowski will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as his life and legacy continue to inspire and guide us all. May he rest in eternal peace.
