It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Edward Dean Baker, who left us peacefully at home on May 1, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on May 22, 1947, in Rugby, North Dakota, Edward, affectionately known as Ed, lived a life rich with love, service, and dedication to his family and community. Ed was the cherished son of the late Welton (Bud) Everett Baker and Armanella (Louise) Baker, who instilled in him the values of kindness, integrity, and hard work. He was predeceased by his parents, who welcomed him home with open arms. A proud alumnus of Tioga High School, Ed graduated in 1966 before embarking on his academic journey at Wahpeton College in North Dakota. His love for his country led him to serve as Specialist 5 in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971, a period that included a tour of duty in Vietnam. Ed’s service was a testament to his strength and dedication, qualities that defined his character throughout his life. Ed found his professional calling at BNSF Railroad, where he worked in communications for a remarkable 33 years. His career was marked by dedication and professionalism until his retirement on June 1, 2007. His colleagues remember him as a reliable and compassionate co-worker, always willing to lend a helping hand. In love and life, Ed was blessed to find his soulmate, Susan Baker, whom he married on October 17, 2003, in Winnemucca, Nevada. Together for 22 beautiful years, Ed and Susan shared a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering companionship. Family was the cornerstone of Ed’s life. A devoted father to Joshua Baker and Angela Longacre, and a proud grandfather to Minie, Shyhan, Treson, Conner, Walker, Stephanie, Brenden, and Stranjay, he cherished every moment spent with his eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His love extended to his extended family, including Tonya & Louie Newhouse, Corey & Laura Schleining, Sandra & Lester Alexander, Charlene Cameron, James & Penny Baker, Denise & Mark Roberts, and Bonnie & Jeff Maggs, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and close friends, all of whom he held dear. Ed's passions were as diverse as they were fulfilling. An avid fly fisherman, he found peace in the quiet moments by the water, casting his line with patience and precision. His woodworking skills were admired by many, and he could often be found tinkering in his shop, creating beautiful pieces that were cherished by family and friends alike. Those who knew Ed will remember him for his warm smile, one that could light up a room and make everyone around him feel welcome. His genuine kindness and generous spirit touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy of love and friendship. Edward Dean Baker's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and service to others. Though he has left this earthly realm, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched. As we celebrate Ed's remarkable life, we hold close the memories of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. May he rest in eternal peace, enveloped in the love of those who have gone before him. A private family service will be held to honor Ed’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of one's choice in Ed's memory.
