In Loving Memory of Edward Alonzo Samon Jr. It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Alonzo Samon Jr., who departed this world on April 24, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on September 4, 1957, in Columbia, South Carolina, Edward lived a life marked by service, love, and an unwavering dedication to his family and community. Edward was the beloved son of the late Jane Davis Samon and Edward Alonzo Samon Sr. He was cherished deeply by his family, including his late grandparents, George and Edna Samon, and Dee and Daisy Davis, who undoubtedly welcomed him into their arms once again. Edward’s sister-in-law, Tameka Samon, also predeceased him, and together they now rest in peace. Edward's journey began in Columbia, where he graduated from Spring Valley High School. He went on to serve his country with honor in the U.S. Air Force from 1977 to 1982, earning several medals of honor for his commendable service. His commitment to serving others extended beyond his military career, as he continued to touch the lives of many through his warmth and kindness. Edward is survived by his devoted wife, Eileen Samon, who stood by his side through every joy and challenge. The couple built a loving family together, raising three children, Arlon Samon and his wife Jessica, Shannon Samon, and Tahlea Samon, each of whom carry forward their father’s legacy with pride and strength. Edward's light continues to shine through his grandchildren: DeeDee, Shaniya, Brianna, Danyelle, Darell, and Jason Samon, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. He was also a cherished brother to Sonja Quattlebaum of Columbia, SC, and brothers Wilbur Samon (Tania), Mark Samon (Lavon), Andre Samon (Stephanie), and Shelley Samon. His extended family includes beloved nieces and nephews: Brian Jones II (Keita), LaSeandra Jones, Sean Jones, Jermaine Samon (Loraine), Sakieria, Sean Samon, Jordan Samon, Harrison Samon, Davis Samon, and Gabby Samon, as well as a host of great-nieces and nephews who will forever remember his gentle spirit and the love he shared. An avid chess player, Edward found great joy in the strategic challenges and camaraderie the game offered. He shared this passion with friends and family, often using it as a way to connect and teach valuable life lessons. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Edward’s life and legacy, per his family's wishes. They would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Midlands Cremations and Meyers Mortuary for their support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to honor Edward's memory do so by cherishing their own families and embracing each moment with love and gratitude. Edward Alonzo Samon Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering love, his dedication to family, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those privileged to know him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of love and kindness will endure forever.
