Dr. Bloch, a man of unwavering dedication and compassion, succumbed to stomach cancer, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and selfless service.
Eduard Bloch was born on January 30, 1872, in Frauenbug, Bohemia, then part of Austria-Hungary. He was the cherished son of Franziska and Veit Bloch, who instilled in him the values of integrity and empathy that would guide him throughout his life. After completing his medical degree at Charles University in the 1890s, Eduard Bloch embarked on a journey that would touch countless lives.
From 1899 to 1901, Dr. Bloch served as a military doctor in the Austro-Hungarian army, stationed in Linz. His time in the military was marked by a commitment to healing and service, traits that became hallmarks of his career. After being discharged, he opened his private medical practice, where he became affectionately known as the "Doctor of the Poor." His practice was distinguished by his unwavering dedication to his patients, many of whom were from the lower and indigent social classes. Dr. Bloch's generosity was unparalleled; he often charged little to no fees, ensuring that everyone had access to the care they needed.
Dr. Bloch's compassionate spirit was most vividly demonstrated when he cared for Klara Hitler during her battle with breast cancer. Despite the financial constraints of the Hitler family, Dr. Bloch provided unwavering support and medical care, charging them minimally. His actions were not motivated by recognition but by an innate desire to alleviate suffering wherever he found it.
In 1902, Eduard married Emilie, beginning a marriage that would last for 44 years. Together, they built a family grounded in love and shared values. Eduard is survived by his devoted wife, Emilie, his beloved daughter, Gertrude "Trude" Kren, her husband, Frank Kren, one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply cherished by him. His family was the center of his world, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.
Dr. Bloch's life will be celebrated in a service at Beth David Cemetery, located in Elmont, Nassau County, New York, USA. His family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched are invited to gather and honor the memory of a man whose heart was as vast as his medical knowledge.
As we reflect on the remarkable life of Dr. Eduard Bloch, we are reminded of the profound impact one individual can have on the world. His unwavering compassion and dedication to those in need serve as an enduring inspiration.
