Edna Henrietta Lillibridge

July 10, 1927 — October 2, 2026

Edna Henrietta Lillibridge, a cherished matriarch and beloved friend, passed away on October 2, 2026, at the Avera Oahe Haven in Gettysburg, South Dakota. Born on July 10, 1927, in the small town of De Smet, South Dakota, Edna was a beacon of warmth and love throughout her 99 years, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Edna was the cherished daughter of Mildred and Leon “Pete” Bruce. She grew up with a profound love for learning, which was evident in her perfect attendance during her high school years at Mission, South Dakota, where she graduated in 1945. Her dedication and commitment were traits she would carry with her throughout her life. Shortly after high school, Edna began her professional journey with the Office of Land Management for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Rosebud, South Dakota. Her career then took her to the State Capitol in Pierre, where she worked for the State Board of Health until she married the love of her life, Wayne Lillibridge, on December 8, 1947. Their journey together began with a chance meeting at a dance in Lebanon, SD, and together they built a life filled with laughter, love, and family in Gettysburg, SD. Edna's life was rich with involvement in community and service. She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg, SD, and a stalwart of the Order of the Eastern Star Waneta Chapter #47 for an impressive 78 years, where she served as Treasurer. Her commitment to service extended to her role as a Bethel Guardian for Job’s Daughters and as a long-time member and Treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also shared her nurturing spirit as a troop leader for Brownies and Girl Scouts, guiding many young hearts with her wisdom and kindness. Edna's hobbies reflected her vibrant personality. She had a passion for collecting teapots and anything related to Mickey Mouse, given their shared birth year. She was also an avid crocheter and knitter, creating beautiful pieces that her family will cherish forever. Known for her sense of humor and quick wit, Edna was always ready with a clever response and a warm smile. Her family was the center of her world, and she would do anything for her loved ones. She is predeceased by her husband, Wayne; her daughter, Nancy Miles; her granddaughter, Melissa Simon; her parents Mildred and Leon “Pete” Bruce; her brother, Wayne Bruce; and her sisters, Evelyn Steinfeld and Ruby Jansen. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through her surviving children: her son, Randy (Cheryl) Lillibridge of Grand Forks, ND; her daughter, Carol (Randy) Simon of Hoven, SD; her son, Larry Lillibridge of Huron; and her daughter, Sandy (Carey) Blaschko of Le Center, MN. She is also survived by six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring legacy. The family would like to give our deepest thanks to Glenda Wipf for being a good friend and caregiver to our mom, which allowed mom to live in her house an extra year. Mom loved going out on your little outings! We would like to thank everyone at the Haven for all of the kindness and wonderful care our mother received. A celebration of Edna's life will be held at the United Methodist Church, located at 101 E. Garfield, Gettysburg, SD. Edna Henrietta Lillibridge's life was a tapestry woven with love, service, and devotion. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
