Edna Grace Hogan
May 23, 1937 - February 25, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Edna Grace Hogan, who departed this world peacefully on February 25, 2026, in Hampton, VA. Born on May 23, 1937, in Sampson County, NC, Edna was a beacon of love and warmth to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Edna was the cherished daughter of Walter and Eva Street. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Claude Barbrey, her brothers Frank and Bill Street, and her sister, Doris Thornton. Through life’s trials and joys, Edna was surrounded by the love of her family and friends, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Harry Hogan, who stood by her side and shared her life with unwavering love. She is survived by her children, Marie White (Tony), Cathy Bowen (JB), and Gary Barbrey, who each carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength. Edna's life was further enriched by her step-sons, Jeff and Dale, and her loving sister, Mildred Beasley.
Edna's joy radiated most brightly when surrounded by her grandchildren: Jason, Joshua, Beth, Heather, Cory, Neal, Kimberly, Blake, Kyle, and Jennifer. Her nurturing spirit and gentle wisdom will continue to inspire her numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her adored grand-dog, Lucky, who brought her comfort and companionship.
Known affectionately as a "Jill of all trades," Edna's professional journey took her through various retail positions as a store clerk. However, her most treasured role was that of a housewife and mother, where her nurturing nature and boundless love found its truest expression. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, filled with laughter and the aroma of her lovingly tended flower garden.
Edna was a dedicated member of the Full Gospel Worship Center, where her faith was a guiding light in her life. Her compassionate spirit and unwavering belief in the goodness of people endeared her to all who knew her.
A celebration of Edna's life will be held on March 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at Peninsula Funeral Home, located at 11144 Warwick Blvd. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Edna are invited to join in commemorating a life beautifully lived.
As we bid farewell to Edna, let us remember the love and laughter she brought into our lives. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion will continue to inspire us all. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Edna’s memory, to honor her generous spirit and love for helping others.
Rest in peace, dear Edna. You will be forever missed and always remembered.
