Eddie Wayne Brooke, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 19, 1935, in Gillespie, Illinois, Eddie was the beloved son of Eddie and Evla (Ines) Brooke. Eddie's life was a testament to dedication, warmth, and community service. He graduated from Gillespie High School in 1953, and after earning a bachelor's degree in business education from Eastern Illinois University in 1958, he pursued a master's degree in administration at Southern Illinois University in 1967. His career in education spanned over three decades, beginning as an 8th-grade teacher and basketball coach at Grant Park Elementary. Eddie later became the principal of Livingston Grade School, where he remained until his retirement in 1992. His colleagues and students remember him as a dedicated and honest educator who tirelessly worked to instill life skills and confidence in those he taught and coached. Eddie was a pillar of his community, actively involved in numerous organizations. He was a devoted member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for 63 years and served as President of the Staunton Education Foundation. His commitment extended to the Staunton Community Hospital board, and he cherished the camaraderie of his "Dinosaur" group of friends, with whom he shared countless pinochle games and breakfasts. Eddie's love for life was evident in his many hobbies. He was a golden gloves boxer, a dedicated bowler, and an avid horseshoe player. His passion for sports included a deep love for the St. Louis Rams and Cardinals. Eddie's adventurous spirit led him to visit every state in the U.S. and explore numerous countries alongside his beloved wife, Dolores. Together, they enjoyed cruises, dancing the jitterbug, and serene country drives. Married on December 22, 1956, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Eddie and Dolores shared 69 beautiful years together, blessed with two children, Todd and Tari. His family meant the world to him, and he treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, Dusty, Kari, and Nick, and his great-grandchildren, Adelynn, Etienne, Holland, and Camden. His home was always filled with laughter, love, and the joy of playing pinochle. Eddie's kindness, quick wit, and generous spirit touched everyone he met. Known for his inviting smile and sense of humor, he had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. His legacy of compassion and community service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Eddie was predeceased by his parents, sister Beverly (Brooke) Edwards, brother-in-law Don Edwards, and parents-in-law Tillie and Joseph DallaRiva. He is survived by his loving wife Dolores, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A celebration of Eddie's life will be held on July 18, 2026, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 460 Church Street, Livingston, IL 62058.
