At the tender age of 17, he embarked on a distinguished career in the United States Navy, serving his country with honor and integrity from 1958 until his retirement in 1982. His naval service was a cornerstone of his life, instilling in him a sense of discipline and duty that he carried with him throughout his years.
In 1962, Eddie married the love of his life, Lillie Rose Carter, in a beautiful ceremony in Houston, Texas. Their union was a remarkable journey of 64 wonderful years, filled with love, laughter, and enduring partnership. Together, they raised three children, including Sharon Cummings and Christopher Carter, who survive him. Their son, Eddie Carter III, predeceased him, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire their family.
Eddie's career extended beyond his military service. He was a dedicated employee at Wyatt’s Cafeteria and later at Coca-Cola, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His work ethic was matched only by his passion for cooking and his love for family gatherings, where his quick wit and warm smile were always on full display.
A man of deep faith, Eddie was an active member of the Catholic Church, where he found community and solace. His faith was a guiding light in his life, offering him strength and comfort in times of joy and sorrow.
Eddie's legacy is carried forward by his daughter Sharon, son Christopher, two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, who will forever hold dear the memories of a grandfather who cherished them deeply. Eddie was a beacon of love and wisdom, always ready with a kind word or a hearty laugh.
